Strada – Eateria & Coffee
I recently had the pleasure of stopping by what I consider a true hidden gem in DTLA. The newly opened Strada is a cafe and a coffee shop. First of all, that sounds like every place these days. The hospitality of owner Julian and his team is unmatched and I want to say that this is the most unique thing but I can’t; their food and offerings are somewhat rare, and definitely peculiar. On a regular weekday afternoon, Julian made me Turkish Sand coffee, a careful and traditional method of making coffee. Using very hot sand, coffee can be made with very even heating and everything is controlled. I also have some of their fresh ceviche, another cup of coffee, fresh squeezed mango lemonade, their simple poke bowl and one of their amazing, yet again simple, sandwiches. Think soft ciabattas, olive oil, and cured meats with peppers. Walking through the front door is a step into the past, a step into foreign hospitality, and food to comfort the rest. Thank you Strada! Make sure Julian shows you the ropes on the Turkish sand Coffee!
